Character Background and Description
Chin-Hwa Hun is a 15-year-old non-binary kid who lives in The Hives with their mom and sister. They have long dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and stand at 5’3’’. Chin-Hwa walks with a limp in their left leg, caused by one of the Hive cells becoming dislodged and crushing their leg when they were 12. While they prefer being referred to with they/them pronouns, they haven’t told anyone outside of their family that they’re non-binary for fear of backlash and bigotry from the community. This is also why they still go by their birth name despite it being a boy’s name.
Although Chin-Hwa never had access to standard systems of education, their mother set aside a little money each month to eventually provide them with the option of Brain Downloading. Wanting to be able to pay back their mother for raising them and their sister alone, Chin-Hwa accepted the Brain Download and gained knowledge past what standard education would have given them.
Now possessing a higher intelligence after the Brain Download, Chin-Hwa has begun looking for jobs early so they can help their mother with the bills. However, most of the companies they’ve tried to work for don’t accept teenage applicants, and the others have a physical labor aspect, making them reject Chin-Hwa on account of their bad leg. They also face complications in finding a job due to the responsibility of needing to watch their sister while their mom is at work, limiting their potential schedule. Nevertheless, Chin-Hwa continues to search for some way to make money to help get their family out of The Hives.
